Jon Jones: Jose Aldo Should Get an Immediate Rematch if Ronda Rousey is

The UFC brass has been pretty much silent on granting Jose Aldo an immediate rematch with Conor McGregor, but Jon Jones is questioning the promotion’s plans.

Aldo’s lengthy and storied reign as featherweight champ came to a crashing end at UFC 194 on Saturday, when McGregor KO’d him in just 13 seconds. It marked the first time in 10 years that Aldo had been defeated, and ended the 15 fight undefeated streak he began with the WEC back in 2008.

Immediately after the defeat, Aldo called for an immediate rematch, but Dana White says┬áthat McGregor will either fight for the lightweight title next, or take on Frankie Edgar. McGregor has also said he wants a crack at the lightweight belt, or that he’d be interested in fighting Edgar in Dublin’s Croke Park.

As you certainly know, however, since Ronda Rousey was put away by Holly Holm, White has said they plan to hand “Rowdy” an immediate rematch. According to Jones, however, they should do the same for Mr. Aldo:

It’s an interesting point, and as Jones noted in his follow up, business considerations factor in. Would McGregor – Aldo II be big? Probably. Would it be as big as having McGregor fight for the lightweight title next? Or Edgar in massive Croke Park? Maybe not. Particularly if Donald Cerrone goes on to win the 155 title at UFC on FOX 17.
