James Irvin vs. Alessio Sakara Added to “UFC on Versus: Vera vs. Jones”

James IrvinJames Irvin is scheduled to return to the Octagon and make his middleweight debut against Alessio Sakara at “UFC on Versus: Vera vs. Jones” on March 21 near Denver, Colorado, according to MMA Weekly.

Irvin (14-5) hasn’t fought since having his two-fight win streak snapped in a July 2008 loss to Anderson Silva, first serving a suspension for banned painkillers before a pair of knee injuries forced him to withdraw from matchups with Drew McFedries last May and Wilson Gouveia in August.

Sakara (14-7-1) began his UFC career with a 3-3 stretch at light heavyweight, then lost his middleweight debut Chris Leben in March 2008. “Legionarius” rebounded with a win over Joe Vedepo in September 2008, but injuries sidelined him until August when he defeated former middleweight contender Thales Leites by split decision. Sakara was scheduled to fight in December, but “documentation” issues forced him to withdraw from a matchup with Rousimar Palhares.

UFC on Versus 1 is headlined by Brandon Vera vs. Jon Jones and also features Junior dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga, Anthony Johnson vs. John Howard, and Sean Sherk vs. Clay Guida.
