Middleweights Rousimar Palhares and Thomas Drwal will meet at UFC 111 on March 27 in Newark, New Jersey, according to MMAJunkie who reports that the combatants have agreed to the match up and are expected to sign the contracts this week.
Palhares (10-2), a submission specialist, is coming off his second consecutive victory, a heel hook submission of Lucio Linhares at UFC 107. His previous win was a unanimous decision victory over Jeremy Horn, bouncing back from his lone UFC loss, which he suffered to Dan Henderson via unanimous decision at UFC 88.
Drwal (17-2-1), a striker prone to engaging in slugfests, is currently riding a three fight winning streak, following victories over Ivan Serati, Mike Ciesnolevicz, and Drew McFedries. He began his UFC career as a light heavyweight, losing to Thiago Silva at UFC 75. However he rebounded aginst Serati and Ciesnolevicz before moving down to middleweight at UFC 103 against McFedries. Also of note, Drwal holds a TKO victory over Palhares’ last opponent, Linhares.
UFC 111, which airs live on pay-per-view from the Prudential Center, is headlined by welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy and also features Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir for the interim heavyweight title.
