Welterweight contenders Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley will square off in the co-main event of UFC 113 on May 1 in Montreal, Koscheck announced on Monday, with the winner of the bout likely to fight the winner of Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy later this year.
The matchup was first reported as a possibility over the weekend.
Daley (23-8-2) made his UFC debut in September with a first-round knockout of Martin Kampmann, and won his fourth-straight at UFC 108 with a first-round KO of Dustin Hazelett, while Koscheck (14-4) bounced back from an upset loss to Paulo Thiago last February with back-to-back wins over Frank Trigg in September and Anthony Johnson in November.
The anticipated rematch between light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and a grudge match between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans were both rumored for the event, which has yet to be officially announced, but one of the bouts is likely to be moved as both fights presumably would have been billed over Koscheck-Daley.
