Chad Mendes Debuts Against Erik Koch at WEC 47

Featherweight prospect Chad Mendes will make his WEC debut against fellow undefeated 145-pounder Erik Koch on the preliminary card of “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz” on March 6 in Columbus, Ohio.

Mendes (5-0), a two-time All-American wrestler at Cal Poly and teammate of Urijah Faber, has started his MMA career with a 5-0 mark while fighting exclusively in Palace Fighting Championship/Taichi Palace Fights. He was last in action in October, topping Mike Joy by unanimous decision.

Koch (9-0) won his ninth-straight with a unanimous decision over Jameel Massouh in December to remain unbeaten.

WEC 47, which airs live on Versus from the Nationwide Arena, is headlined by bantamweight champ Brian Bowles vs. challenger Dominick Cruz and also includes Joseph Benavidez vs. Miguel Torres, Deividas Taurosevicius vs. LC Davis, and Jens Pulver vs. Javier Vazquez.
