UFC FN 82: Main Card Play-By-Play And Results

With the preliminary card over for UFC FN 82, it’s time to move to the main card, and the headliner between Johny Hendricks and Stephen Thompson. That fight could be a doozy.

Mike Pyle vs. Sean Spencer

Round 1: Spencer lands a left moments in. Body kick from Pyle. Another left from Spencer. Pyle attempts another kick but is greeted with a jab. Leg kick from Pyle. Spencer comes in but Pyle threatens with an uppercut. Pyle plants an overhand right. Wow. Spencer floors Pyle with a right. Latter goes for an armbar and then scrambles back to his feet. Pyle is bleeding; looks like from his nose. Left from Spencer. And another one. Pyle lands a leg kick. Both guys chuck big punches to close out the round.

Round 2: Both men are keeping fairly busy with strikes. Spencer threatens with the left hand again. Wow. Pyle stuns Spencer with a counter punch. Spencer seems to have recovered. Pyle fires a spinning back fist but Spencer responds with a counter. Left hook from Spencer. Right hand from Pyle. Another left from Spencer but Pyle counters. Spinning kick from Pyle misses. Spencer charges in and Pyle counters with a TD attempt. He gets it. Round ends.

Round 3: Great fight so far. Spencer continues to stick Pyle with the jab. Nice combo from Spencer and Pyle smiles. Pyle throws a knee to the body and jumps on a guillotine. Spencer rolls out. Pyle is hunting for a choke but gives up the position. Pyle fires a knee but takes a left in return. Crazy. Pyle rocks Spencer with a spinning elbow. Knees from Pyle. Follow up elbows. This is nasty. Another knee to the head along the cage and the ref stops the fight. What a win for Pyle. Could be another 50 Gs right there folks.

Misha Cirkunov vs. Alex Nicholson

Round 1: Nicholson, who is a huge underdog, comes with kicks early on. Cirkunov throws an uppercut. Nicholson misses with a spinning backfist. Cirkunov charges in and under a spinning backfist, but Nicholson breaks free. Nice right hand from Cirkunov. Latter clinches up, throws a knee, but Nicholson breaks free. Left from Cirkunov lands. Another spin from Nicholson misses and Cirkunov takes him down. Nicholson gets up. Cirkunov takes a low blow. Action resumes. Nicholson is cut by his left eye. Cirkunov scores another TD. Hard elbow from Cirkunov. Round ends.

Round 2: Nicholson fires a right but Cirkunov counters. Cirkunov flurries in, gets another TD. Nicholson gives up his back.Wow. Cirkunov starts cranking with a rear-naked-choke, and Nicholson taps. Was likely more so from the crank. Yikes. Looks like Cirkunov may have broken Nicholson’s jaw with the hold.

Joseph Benavidez vs. Zach Makovsky

Round 1: Benavidez lands a left. Benavidez fires a leg kick and Makovsky answers with a left. Makovsky with a leg kick and a nice TD. Benavidez gets back to his feet. Both men fire hard straights. Benavidez digs a right to the body. Makovsky fires in a nice left. Benavidez lands an elbow. Latter grazes Makovsky with a headkick. Benavidez flurries in and plants a hard punch to the body. Makovsky fires an elbow but Benavidez counters. Latter flurries in and Makovsky tries to land a TD. Makovsky slams Benavidez but again, he jumps right back up.

Round 2: Makovsky throws a left and changes level. Benavidez defends. Latter with a front kick to the body. Makovsky’s TD attempt is squashed. Benavidez with a nice combo. Another body kick from Benavidez. Makovsky spins with a fist. Makovsky dumps Benavidez with a single leg. Wow. Benavidez scrambles up and out again. Makovsky grabs a single and Benavidez responds with a guillotine attempt. Makovsky feints a TD. Benavidez flurries in but gets taken down. Again Benavidez jumps right back to his feet. Round ends.

Round 3: Pace hasn’t slowed down much at all. No surprises considering the participants. Makovsky threatens with a knee. Benavidez grabs Makovsky by the neck but the latter defends. Right hands from Benavidez. Superman punch from the latter. Makovsky likely needs a finish. Benavidez continues to move forward and Makovsky is attempting to counter with TDs. Nice right from Benavidez. Makovsky with a left. Latter wings a headkick but it’s blocked. Benavidez clinches up and threatens with an elbow. Benavidez lands an elbow right before the final horn goes.

Rafael Cavalcante vs. Ovince Saint Preux

Round 1: Couple of dangerous 205’ers. Saint-Preux is moving forward. Cavalcanate (Feijao) with a leg kick. OSP fires in a left. Feijao with a counter right. OSP with a one / two. OSP throws a leg kick and reacts awkwardly. OSP could be hurt. Feijao fires in a leg kick. Feijao with another leg kick. OSP is clearly favouring his right leg. OSP throws a left kick. OSP misses badly with a wild left hand. Feijao plants a right. Wow. OSP stuns Feijao with a big punch. Latter stumbles to the floor. Crazy. OSP is running out of time. Feijao fires back with an elbow. Round ends.

Round 2: OSP throws a body kick. OSP seems to be moving better now. Not much going on. Front kick from OSP. Feijao plants a left. OSP with a couple of jabs. Another front kick from OSP. Feijao with hardly any volume. Feijao charges in and stumbles to the mat. OSP’s on top. Hammer fists from OSP. Round ends.

Round 3: Both guys come out winging big shots. OSP misses with a left. OSP flurries in and takes Feijao down. OSP is working from the top. Feijao, as Brian Stann has repeatedly said, needs to do something off his back. Nothing is really going on. OSP gets back to his feet and chucks down a hard left. OSP with some huge punches from above. Final horn goes. Feijao let the opportunity to go after OSP in the opening round.

Ovince Saint Preux def. Rafael Cavalcante via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Roy Nelson vs. Jared Rosholt

Round 1: Nelson is keeping a low stance. Nelson lands a jab. Latter with a combo. Wow. Nelson misses with a huge overhand right. Rosholt lands a left. Nelson with a nice uppercut. Nelson charges in but may have got tagged with a counter. Rosholt lands a hard jab. Both heavyweights wing big punches. Rosholt with a front kick. Round ends.

Round 2: Rosholt changes levels but can’t get the TD. Nelson sticks a hard jab. Both men land lefts. Nelson misses with a huge right. Rosholt lands a leg kick. Nelson lands a left. Latter fires in a right and each man land lefts. Still not much volume wise. Nelson chucks a big right and the round ends.

Round 3: Nelson with a hard leg kick. Rosholt lands a counter left. Nelson changes levels but Rosholt shrugs him off. Nelson flurries in with some big shots. Rosholt misses with a right. Nelson charges in again. Rosholt misses with a hight kick and eats a right. Nelson is still moving forward. Rosholt shoots in but can’t get the TD. Nelson comes in bombing heavy shots and the round ends. Fight is likely Nelson’s.

Johny Hendricks vs. Stephen Thompson

Round 1: Thompson with a flying kick that misses. Hendricks charges in and pushes Thompson to the cage. Thompson gets back to his feet. Side kick from Thompson to the body and head. Headkick from Thompson is blocked. Latter flurries in. Hendricks seems a wee bit unsettled. Left hand from Thompson. Hendricks chucks a left. Nice right from Thompson. Another right from Thompson lands. Wow. Thompson cracks Hendricks with a right. Former champ could be hurt. Thompson flurries in, including a spinning kick, and that’s it. Huge, huge win for Thompson. Ridiculously impressive.
