If you live in Brazil or are a big fan of the nation’s all-star fighters, then UFC 198 is shaping up to be a ridiculously stacked card no?
Yes, as the headline reports, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is the latest Brazilian star to be added to the May 14th card, as the UFC has announced he’ll take on Corey Anderson. The booking comes not long after Rua had to pull out of a April 16th scrap with Rashad Evans due to injury. Glover Teixeira has agreed to step up and fight Evans at UFC on FOX 19.
Rua (23-10) will be looking to build on the decision win he earned over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira last August, which followed back-to-back stoppage defeats to Dan Henderson and Ovince Saint Preux.
Anderson (8-1) already has a lot of momentum behind him, as he decisioned Tom Lawlor at UFC 196, and extended his winning streak to three.
Rua is currently ranked #8 at 205, and Anderson, or “Beastin 25/8”–one of the best nicknames in the game–is sitting in the #12 spot.
UFC 198 will be hosted by the massive Arena da Baixada and they’re going to need all that seating…
In the headliner, heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum will take on Stipe Miocic. Werdum’s Brazilian. In the co-headliner, Vitor Belfort will take on fellow middleweight contender, “Jacare” Souza. Both of those dudes are big name, Brazilian fighters.
Some of the other Brazilian stars scheduled to compete include Demian Maia, who is going to face Matt Brown, and the aforementioned Nogueira, who will take on Patrick Cummins. Not to mention the other Brazilian fighters who have been booked for the under card.
So yeah, chances are 40,000 plus fans are going to be catching this in person. Just think if the UFC does decide to book Anderson Silva for the event…
