Recently the promotion announced that the middleweights will throw down at UFC 198, which will take place on May 14th in Curitiba, Brazil. It’s a match-up that features two of the division’s most dynamic and dangerous strikers, and yes, a G.O.A.T. candidate in Silva.
Hall appeared on “MMA Junkie Radio” recently, and during the interview he relayed that he’s so excited about the bout, it’s almost overwhelming for him. The TUF vet also had this to say about the legendary Silva, and his decision loss to Michael Bisping last month (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“He expresses himself when he goes out there,” Hall said. “I’m kind of like that too. I’m free-spirited, free-minded. You look at his last fight – I thought he won. But on paper it says Bisping won. But I thought he won. People can say he was showboating, but it’s a (expletive) fight. … I thought (Bisping) got his ass beat. But it just goes to show you can’t leave it to the judges. They suck.”
There’s no doubt that Silva isn’t afraid to step outside of the box when it comes to technique, and attempting to set traps for his opponents. For the most part, Bisping did a pretty good job of dealing with Silva’s unorthodox approach, although he was a bloody mess by the end of the bout.
Of course, Bisping supporters and others will note that fights are scored round-by-round, and aren’t necessarily awarded to the fighter who inflicts the most damage.
This aside, it’s going to be fascinating to see what unfolds in Silva – Hall. It’s a huge fight for both men, but particularly Silva, if he hopes to make another title run at this stage of the game.
