Jon Jones took to Instagram and offered Rashad Evans some words of encouragement following UFC on FOX 19, but many likely would have missed it, if not for the media…

On Saturday, Evans was quickly KO’d by Glover Teixeira, in what was the former light-heavyweight champ’s second consecutive defeat.┬áThe losses have come after the 36 year-old Evans was sidelined for all of 2014 and part of 2015 due to knee injuries.

If you’re a veteran MMA fan, then you know that Jones and Evans used to be teammates at Jackson-Wink MMA. But, as tensions mounted about the possibility of the two fighting, Evans left the team, and they battled in 2012. Jones won the bout via UD.

Well, according to a report from Mixed Martial, Jones posted the following comments on Instagram, following UFC on FOX 19. But, as Jones has been known to do, he apparently has deleted the post since.

” (Brian) Stann’s absolutely right, keep your head up Evans,” Jones reportedly wrote. “In my eyes, you’ll always be a legend of the sport. You’re a great champion and always will be. Our fight records aren’t what define us, it’s about the journey we are courageous enough to be on.”

Jones also wrote on Twitter that he felt “really bad” watching Evans getting taken out. That post, however, remains up (at least it does as this is being written). So, it certainly seems like Jones has moved past his previous issues with Evans. It will be interesting to see what comes next for the latter. The former champ noted after the loss that some things need to change.

Jones, meanwhile, is booked to take on Ovince Saint Preux for the interim 205 title at UFC 197 on Saturday.
