George Roop has agreed to replace Diego Nunes, who suffered an undisclosed injury last week, and will fight featherweight Leonard Garcia on short notice on the WEC 46 preliminary card on March 6 in Columbus, Ohio.
Roop (10-6), a lightweight castmember on The Ultimate Fighter 8, dropped to featherweight after 1-2 in the UFC, including losses to George Sotiropoulos and Shane Nelson, but dropped a unanimous decision to Eddie Wineland in his WEC debut in January. Now, Roop will move up to 145-pounds as he looks for his first WEC victory.
Garcia (13-5) also began as a UFC lightweight before transitioning to the WEC, where he won back-to-back fights over Hiroyukia Takaya and Jens Pulver to earn a shot at the featherweight title, but came up short against Mike Brown. After bouncing back with a win over Jameel Massouh, Garcia dropped a unanimous decision to Manny Gamburyan in November in his most-recent fight.
WEC 46 is headlined by bantamweight champ Brian Bowles vs. challenger Dominick Cruz, and also includes Miguel Torres vs. Joseph Benavidez and Jens Pulver vs. Javier Vazquez on its Versus-televised main card.
