UFC 199: Luke Rockhold Promises to Take Michael Bisping Out, Congratulates Latter on His “Retirement”

Michael Bisping has vowed that things are going to be different when he faces Luke Rockhold for a second time at UFC 199, and so does the latter…

As you’ve certainly heard by now, Bisping has been tapped for a rematch with Rockhold, after Chris Weidman was forced to pull out of the June 4th card due to a neck injury. Bisping and Rockhold squared off in November, 2014, and the middleweight champ submitted “The Count” in the second round.

Well, both men appeared on the latest edition of “UFC Tonight“, and Bisping warned the champion that he’s coming for his “chin.” The British fighter also brought up their well documented, sparring sessions several years ago, which Bisping claims he won handily.

Rockhold isn’t one to sit back and not return fire, of course, and here is some of what he had to say in return (quotes via FOX Sports press release):

“Thanks to Michael Bisping for being a man and taking this fight. I want to congratulate him on his retirement,” said Rockhold, before referring to a recent acting gig Bisping landed. “It sounds like he’s got a nice budding movie career.”

“Last time, it was a mistake letting you get out of the first round. This time it won’t happen.”

It sounds like the UFC was going to offer “Jacare” Souza this fight, but since the latter injured his meniscus while taking out Vitor Belfort, he couldn’t accept. While some believe Rockhold – Souza would have been more competitive, Bisping can promote a fight with the best of them.

It’s going to be fascinating to see if Bisping can pull off the upset, and finally secure the belt he’s been working so hard for, all these years. If Rockhold looks past Bisping, however, he could be in for a surprise.

UFC 199 will go down at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
