Injuries to Spencer Fisher and Rob Kimmons have prompted a pair of changes to the “UFC on Versus: Vera vs. Jones” fight card, as newcomer Darren Elkins takes on Duane “Bang” Ludwig and Julio Paulino debuts against Mike Pierce at the March 21 event near Denver.
Fisher was forced to withdraw from the event after suffering a back injury and will be replaced by Elkins, according to Wrestling Observer and MMA Weekly, while MMAjunkie reports that Paulino will step in for Kimmons, who has been sidelined with a leg injury.
Elkins (10-1) rebounded from his first career loss in September with back-to-back wins, including a unanimous decision victory over IFL and UFC veteran Gideon Ray in his most-recent fight in November.
Paulino (17-2) is riding a seven-fight win streak that includes victories over former UFC fighters Terry Martin in September and Rob Yundt earlier this month.
UFC on Versus 1, the UFC’s debut event on Versus, is headlined by Brandon Vera vs. Jon Jones and also features Junior dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga and Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello.
