So Robbie Lawler Says he Would Have Taken Conor McGregor’s “Soul”…

Robbie Lawler

It wasn’t that long ago when people were talking about the possibility of Conor McGregor fighting Robbie Lawler at UFC 200, and then, well, Nate Diaz put a stop to all the speculation.

Yes, leading up to McGregor – Diaz at UFC 196, there was a lot of talk that the UFC would tap the Irish star for a scrap with the welterweight champ Lawler, provided he won. Diaz, however, put McGregor away in the second round with a rear-naked-choke, and now they’ll fight again at UFC 202, August 20th.

Lawler, meanwhile, is set to face his ATT teammate Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 on July 30th. Recently the two appeared on WSB-TV 2 in Atlanta, and Lawler was asked whether he wanted to face McGregor. Lawler proceeded to acknowledge it would have been a big fight, but that it wouldn’t have gone well for McGregor. When asked how so, this followed:

“’Because if I hurt him, I wasn’t taking his neck,” Lawler said.

“What were you going to take?” the channel’s sports direct Zach Klein asked.

“His soul,” Lawler said. “I’m a lot different than most people. He found a way out and (Nate) Diaz took his neck and was nice to him.”

And if you think Lawler didn’t believe what he was saying…watch the interview clip below. How scary is that dude?

Now, this is a fight that in theory, could still happen down the road. It’s unlikely, but if McGregor defeats Diaz, and were to score another win or two at welterweight, then you never know right? If Lawler remains champ? That’s a lot of ifs, however, since McGregor has yet to win at 170 and a run at 155 is more likely.
