A lot of people have scoffed at the idea Dan Henderson could be the first man to challenge the newly crowned champ, Michael Bisping, but UFC boss man Dana White isn’t ruling it out.
Not long after Bisping dropped jaws throughout the galaxy by knocking out Luke Rockhold, some fans began to campaign for Bising – Henderson II. The latter bombed out the British star back in 2009, in what was one of the most memorable KOs the promotion has seen.
Since the 45 year-old legend is nearing retirement, and is coming off a highlight reel, KO of Hector Lombard at UFC 199, his fans have pushed for a title shot. Bisping, not surprisingly, has already said he would love a chance to avenge the defeat. But, because “Hendo” is ranked #13 at 185, and has lost three of his last five fights, purists aren’t on board with the idea.
“I know a lot of people want to see that fight, but there’s so many guys that we would have to jump over to do that fight,” White said. “But most of them are hurt. ‘Jacare’ is hurt, Weidman’s hurt, Rockhold just lost. So I wouldn’t rule it out.”
“He’s saying win, lose or draw, if he fought Bisping in a title fight he would retire,” White added later. “But if wins the belt I highly doubt he would retire. I don’t know it’s a tough one. I’ve questioned over the last year whether Henderson should still be fighting at 45, but it’s hard to deny the guy when he’s taking people out the way that he is.”
Wow. Now does this mean the bout will happen? Not necessarily, but obviously the UFC is considering it.
