If your MMA diet is only UFC based, then you might not be familiar with Brooks, who’s been regarded as one of the top lightweights in the world, not signed by ZUFFA. Recently the UFC added the well rounded fighter to the roster, however, and Brooks will battle Pearson on Friday night.
So what does Pearson think of Brooks? And his resume? Well, recently the British fighter had this to say (quote via FloCombat):
“To be honest, I’ve not seen too much of him, I saw his fights with Michael Chandler but that’s it,” Pearson said. “I know he’s athletic, strong, fit, explosive and pretty much well rounded, but I think he’s been competing against lower level guys and he’s had everything his own way in there.
“Next Thursday night we are going to find out whether he can do that in the UFC. I don’t lay down for no one, I don’t give up to no one and believe you me I’m in there to fight. He better realise that there is no quit in me, there is no way of breaking me…He better realise quickly this is a different level of competition.”
There you have it. There’s no question that Pearson is ridiculously tough and rugged, and he possesses some of the best hands in the lightweight division. But, Brooks has a very comprehensive game and has defeated Chandler, not once, but twice. That’s saying something.
It’s going to be interesting to see what goes down. Pearson is coming off a split decision win over Chad Laprise, after being decisioned by Francisco Trinaldo.
The July 8th, TUF 23 Finale will go down in Las Vegas, Nevada.
