Following Nate Diaz’s loss to Conor McGregor he called for a third fight with the latter, and clearly he wasn’t talking about having it way down the line.
Diaz rallied back from a rough start in the UFC 202 headliner, which saw him get dropped several times, and pushed McGregor to his limits for the remainder of the bout. The judges decided it wasn’t enough, however, and McGregor received a majority decision win.
During his post-fight, Octagon interview, Diaz called for a third bout with McGregor, and while speaking to the media after, the Stockton star said this (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“Whenever they’re ready to rock,” Diaz said. “But I’m not doing (expletive) until we go for round three. You won’t be seeing me until then. If they want to set it up as soon as possible, let’s do it. But I don’t think it’s a very good business move for him to be taking any other fights. He’s a businessman, so let’s see what happens.”
It’s not surprising to hear Diaz say this, as the rugged fighter certainly isn’t shy about sharing what he wants next. Will it happen though?
Well, during Dana White’s post-fight interview with FOX Sports 1, he said that Diaz – McGregor will happen in the future, and not “right now”. White said McGregor either needs to defend the 145 title (against interim champ Jose Aldo) or vacate it.
McGregor also called for a third fight with Diaz, but while speaking to the media, he stopped short of saying it should come next. Guess we’ll see what happens.
UFC 202 went down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
