Gegard Mousasi, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, and Rameau Theirry Sokoudjou will participate in DREAM’s upcoming light heavyweight grand prix tournament, which begins at DREAM 15, while welterweight champ Marius Zaromskis will return to action at the May 30 event at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, according to MMAFighting.
Mousasi (28-2-1), the winner of DREAM’s 2009 welterweight GP, claimed the Strikeforce light heavyweight title in August with a win over Sobral and has since posted back-to-back victories over Sokoudjou and Gary Goodridge to extend his win streak to 15. Prior to his return to DREAM, he’ll defend the Strikeforce belt against Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal at the promotion’s April 17 “Nashville” event.
The UFC veteran Sobral (35-9) hasn’t fought since losing to Mousasi, which snapped a five-fight win streak, while Sokoudjou followed up his loss to Mousasi with another loss to Ikuhisa Minowa in the finals of DREAM’s “Super Hulk” tournament in December.
Zaromskis (13-4) earned the welterweight title with first-round head kick KOs of Hayato Sakurai and Jason High in July, then scored a 19-second head kick KO of Ho Bae Myeon in a non-title bout in October, but has his five-fight win streak stopped in a January loss to Nick Diaz for Strikeforce’s 170-pound title. His opponent has yet to be determined.
Prior to DREAM 15, the promotion will host DREAM 13, headlined by featherweight champ Bibiano Fernandes vs. Joachim Hansen, in Japan on March 22 before heading to South Korea for DREAM 14 on April 24.
