Garbrandt took on Takeya Mizugaki on Saturday night, and put away the tough veteran in just 48 seconds. That’s even quicker than Cruz’s 61 second win over Mizugaki, which went down in 2014 (it should be noted here that Mizugaki is 8-5 in the UFC, and holds wins over some tough dudes, like Bryan Caraway).
Well, since Garbrandt also took out Thomas Almeida in electrifying fashion this past May, he and Cruz have taken their feud to a new level. The two have been trading shots through the media, and that has continued, since UFC 202.
Case in point, here is what Cruz recently told MMA Fighting.com, while discussing “No Love”:
“Let the youngster enjoy his hype train fresh off his win,” Cruz said. “Let his people keep on building that false sense of confidence that they are all instilling into his psyche over this period, it’s good for him.
“I kill hype for a living.”
That could become quite the catch-phrase no?
Of course, it remains to be seen if the UFC goes with Cruz – Garbrandt; TJ Dillashaw is campaigning hard for a title shot too. But, there’s certainly a lot of buzz behind that fight right now.
