Following his decision loss to Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz made it clear he wants another bout with his rival, but now the latter’s relayed he’s in no rush for round three.
Diaz faced McGregor at UFC 202 earlier this month, and lost the thrilling bout via unanimous decision. Back in March, Diaz submitted McGregor at UFC 196 to hand the superstar his first UFC loss. Immediately after his second bout with McGregor, Diaz called for a third fight. Then after the event, Diaz said he wasn’t going to fight, unless it was a third scrap with McGregor.
Well, Diaz recently appeared on Chael Sonnen’s podcast, and while discussing a rubber match with McGregor, he said this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“It’s whatever to me,” Diaz said. “I won the fight. I’m not jumping for joy for round three. I think I beat him twice and it’s 2-0, as far as I’m concerned. If they’re gonna want to do it down the road, I don’t know. I’m not in a hurry. It’s all good.”
So, it will be interesting to see then if Diaz gets booked for another fight, other than a third bout with McGregor. The latter has said that he doesn’t think a third fight right away makes sense, and Dana White has also reported that the promotion isn’t interested in McGregor – Diaz III right now.
Diaz has become one of the promotion’s biggest names, so if he’s interested in fighting in the interim, one would think the UFC can put together an all-star, lucrative bout for him no? It also remains to be seen what’s next for McGregor, who it sounds like, wants to fight at 155 next.
