UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will make his anticipated return to action against newly-crowned interim title-holder Shane Carwin in the main event of UFC 116 on July 3 in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White today announced following Carwin’s first-round knockout of Frank Mir at Saturday’s UFC 111.
Lesnar (4-1), who was scheduled to fight Carwin in November and January before a bout with diverticulitis sidelined him, recently announced he was “100 percent recovered” for his previously-reported July return, which will end a near year-long hiatus since a successful title defense over Mir last July at UFC 100.
Carwin (12-0) remained undefeated with his win over Mir, improving to 4-0 in the UFC with four-straight first-round KOs, including his previous victory over Gabriel Gonzaga in just 69-seconds last March.
UFC 116, which airs live on pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, is expected to be co-headlined by Wanderlei Silva vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama.
