Roy Nelson Picks up Suspension & Fine For Kicking “Big” John McCarthy

Chances are that if you kick a referee you’re going to pick up a suspension and a fine, and that’s exactly what’s happened to Roy Nelson.

In September, Nelson made headlines throughout the MMA world, after he kicked referee “Big” John McCarthy in the back, moments after the latter stopped his bout with Antonio Silva. Nelson thought McCarthy jumped in too late, and argued that Silva took unnecessary punishment as a result. The heavyweight said he was sorry for what went down, but Nelson also relayed he wouldn’t “take it back” either…

Well, MMA Fighting is reporting that the Brazilian Superior Justice Court of MMA (STJDMMA) has handed Nelson a nine month suspension, and a $24,000 fine for the incident. Interestingly, Nelson could have his suspension reduced to six months, and his fine knocked back to $13,700, if he formally apologizes to McCarthy. The apology, however, has to take place in the Octagon or at a press conference…

If Nelson goes that route, then he could be eligible to fight in April.
