UFC FN 102: Robert Whittaker Says “It’s About Time” he Gets The Respect he Deserves

Robert Whittaker has done nothing but win in his last five fights, and “The Reaper” says it’s time he gets some more respect from the MMA world…

The 25 year-old fighter is getting ready to fight fellow middleweight contender Derek Brunson this weekend at UFC Fight Night 102, which will go down in Melbourne, Australia. Both men are riding five fight winning streaks heading into the bout.

Since Whittaker was was stopped by Stephen Thompson back in 2014, the rising fighter has defeated several established vets, including Uriah Hall, Brad Tavares and Rafael Natal. Whittaker is currently ranked #7 i the 185 division.

Thus, this is likely why Whittaker recently told MMA the following:

“I’ve been flying under the radar a bit, and it’s about time I get the respect I deserve.”

“For your casuals – you know, your tourists – they don’t really know,” Whittaker relayed later in the story.”If you’re not the champion or the top contender or have a big mouth, then you fly under the radar a little bit. But it’s going to be a good fight. It’s going to be a killer fight. It’s definitely one to watch.”

It’s hard to argue with Whittaker here, as his recent run has been somewhat overlooked by the masses. But, in a year that’s been dominated by talk about Conor McGregor, more than a few fighters have been flying under the radar.

Whittaker and Brunson are fighting in the headliner, since the original main event between Luke Rockhold and “Jacare” Souza fell through. Rockhold had to withdraw due to an injury, so the UFC pushed Whittaker – Brunson into the top spot. It should be a good scrap.
