Holloway cracked Pettis with a hard right hand in round three, and after following up with more punches, the bout was brought to an end. With the win, Holloway moved his winning streak to 10, and he also secured the interim featherweight title. As a result, Holloway will advance to face 145 champ Jose Aldo in 2017.
Pettis reported after the bout that he broke his right hand shortly into the contest. “Showtime” also said that he will not be returning to the featherweight division, since the weight cut is too difficult. Pettis missed weight for the bout, as he came in at 148 pounds.
In the co-headliner, Donald Cerrone took out fellow welterweight contender Matt Brown with a beautifully timed head kick in round three. Both men landed heavy shots during the bout, but Cerrone appeared to be landing more often. In the third frame, Cerrone floored Brown with a switch kick, and the bout was immediately called.
