Cain Velasquez

Injuries have once again sent the UFC’s former heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez to the sidelines.

On Saturday the UFC announced that Velasquez will no longer face Fabricio Werdum on December 3oth as scheduled, sine the Nevada Commission will not clear him to fight. Recently Velasquez informed ESPN that he is undergoing back surgery early next year.

Here is the official statement that the UFC recently posted:

Saturday afternoon, UFC was informed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission that Cain Velasquez is unfit to fight. As a result, the former two-time heavyweight champion has been removed from his Dec. 30 bout against Fabricio Werdum at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC 207, which is headlined by the women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey, will proceed with 10 bouts

Velasquez was looking to avenge the submission loss he incurred versus Werdum last June at UFC 188.
