As you may recall, Gall called out Punk during a taping of Dana White’s “Lookin’ for a Fight”, right after he had scored his first pro win. White was impressed with what he saw, and booked Gall to fight Jackson at UFC FN 82. Jackson, who was making his pro debut, was submitted in less than one minute. As a result, Gall advanced to face Punk at UFC 203 in September, and he quickly rolled through the newcomer as well.
Initially, White relayed that Punk likely won’t be back in the UFC, but more recently the latter has reported that it’s looking like he’ll get another shot. Well, recently MMA Junkie caught up with Jackson, and he had this to say and Punk:
“You’re trying to make money, and that’s really the only reason we’re bringing this guy in in the first place, and it seems what’s best would be to allow me to fight him.”
“Let’s see who the real can is here, and let’s make some money doing it,” Jackson added.
From an experience stand-point, this fight seems to make sense, and Punk did question the caliber of Gall’s previous opponents, before they fought at UFC 203. But it would seem kind of weird having two fighters who are 0-1, throwing down in the Octagon no?
It will be interesting to see if indeed, Punk is brought back for another fight, and who he’ll face. Maybe they will go with Jackson?
