In advance of Stephen Thompson’s second scrap with Tyron Woodley, the UFC has posted the win that locked up his first title shot.
That victory was Thompson’s decision victory over Rory MacDonald, which went down last June. The fight followed Thompson’s first round, stoppage of Johny Hendricks, which prompted “Wonderboy” to call for a title shot.
Ultimately, however, the welterweight was booked to fight MacDonald first, and thanks to that win, he faced the champ Woodley in November. That bout was declared a majority draw, and the two will do it again, March 4th at UFC 209.
