Now sure, Cruz wasn’t stopped in his last outing like Rousey was. But, Cruz was outgunned by Cody Garbrandt, who many believed would be in over his head against the consensus, greatest 135’er. The loss to Garbrandt marked the first time in ten years that Cruz had been defeated.
Well, recently Cruz was a guest on “The Joe Rogan Experience“, and he and Rogan talked about Rousey’s devastating losses to Amanda Nunes and Holly Holm. While doing so, Cruz had this advice for Rousey (quote via Bloody Elbow):
“It’s heartbreaking for me, I know what she’s feeling, I know what she’s going through,” Cruz said. “And as a female, it’s even on another level, I can’t really imagine that. It’s a different level of scrutiny, I would imagine.”
“It shows how hard it is to deal with this, man. The ups and downs. Because the downs hit hard, just as hard as the ups hit. There can’t be any separation in who you are with the win and a loss because if there is, it’s gonna show. And you got to be who you are and not be solely connected to fighting as your whole being. Otherwise, you’re over when it ends.”
That’s some sound advice, and it comes from a guy who’s faced a lot of adversity during his career. During the episode, Cruz talked in length about he eventually accepted the fact he might not fight again, as a result of his well documented injuries.
Currently it’s not clear if Rousey will fight again, but recently she posted some comments on Instagram, that have people buzzing about a possible return.
