Kelvin Gastelum Gets His Wish, Will Battle Anderson Silva Next

Kelsey Mowatt

Kelvin Gastelum will take on another legendary fighter and Brazilian star in his next bout, just like he asked for, as the UFC’s announced he’ll face Anderson Silva, June 3rd.

After Gastelum stormed through Vitor Belfort last Saturday at UFC Fight Night 106, the rising fighter relayed he wanted to fight Silva next. The win over Belfort was Gastelum’s third straight, and second in a row competing at middleweight.

Silva’s last bout took place at UFC 208 in February, and the former champ scored a controversial, decision win over Derek Brunson. The win returned the storied fighter to the win column, following decision defeats to Michael Bisping and Derek Brunson.

So, there you have it. Recently Silva campaigned for bouts with Nick Diaz or Bisping, but the timing for this match-up is pretty perfect. UFC 212 will take place in Rio de Janeiro.
