Assuncao vs. Nunes, Darabedyan vs. Kerr Added to June’s “WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus”

Diego NunesRaphael Assuncao has announced that he’ll face fellow featherweight Diego Nunes at “WEC 49: Varner vs. Shalorus,” while a lightweight bout between Karen Darabedyan and Will Kerr has also been added to the preliminary card of the June 20 event in Edmonton, Canada.

Assuncao (14-2) scored back-to-back WEC wins over Jameel Massouh and Yves Jabouin before suffering a third-round submission to former champ Urijah Faber in January, while Nunes (13-1) suffered his first loss to LC Davis in November following wins over Cole Province and Rafael Dias.

Darabedyan (9-2) edged former champ Rob McCullough in his WEC debut in January, but was submitted by Bart Palaszewski in his most-recent bout in March, while Kerr (8-2) dropped his WEC debut to Kamal Shalorus in November.

Shalorus will look to remain unbeaten when he faces former lightweight title-holder Jamie Varner in the WEC 49 headliner, while the Versus-televised main card also features Josh Grispi vs. LC Davis, Chris Horodecki vs. Ed Ratcliff, Mark Hominick vs. Yves Jabouin, and Eddie Wineland vs. Charlie Valencia.
