Dana White Outlines Why Feels Compelled to Make Conor McGregor – Floyd Mayweather a Reality

Kelsey Mowatt

Recently Dana White reported that he believes Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather will fight because there’s so much money on the table, and it sounds like he’s more motivated than ever now to make it happen.

In the preceding weeks, the proposed boxing match has gone from one that most folks scoffed at not long ago, to a fight that appears inevitable. Both McGregor and Mayweather have made it clear they want it to happen, and it looks like the financial details are all that are holding up a finalized deal.

Recently White appeared on “The Herd”, and not surprisingly, he was asked about the McGregor – Mayweather bout. Here is some of what the UFC President had to say (quote via FOX Sports):

It’s a fight that people do want to see. It’s intriguing and obviously it a fight that Conor wants because financially, it’s going to be massive for him. McGregor is a fighter I have a lot of respect for. He has stepped up in time where people who were at his level would never step up…This kid steps up, he’ll fight anybody, anytime. You know, a lot of people say it, very few really mean it. Conor McGregor — I can him the unicorn, man — I’ve never dealt with a kid like this. So for him to have the opportunity to make this kind of money and this type of a fight that people are so interested in, worldwide, I almost feel like I have to make it.

Now sure, some will argue that White’s pushing for the bout to happen, since the UFC also stands to make a ton of money. But, considering how important McGregor has been to the promotion, White probably doesn’t want to risk ruining that relationship by blocking the superstar’s chance to make a ridiculous amount of cash. It also certainly seems like White genuinely likes McGregor as well, so there’s that too…

If and when it happens, it’s going to be a massive, massive moment in combat sports history.
