UFC 210: Jon Jones Outlines Why he Thinks Daniel Cormier’s Going to Win Tonight

Jon Jones has yet to face Anthony Johnson, and it looks like the former light-heavyweight champ doesn’t expect to fight “Rumble” anytime soon.

Johnson will battle Daniel Cormier tonight at UFC 210, who submitted him in the the third round back in 2015, to become the new / current champ. Since Jones never lost the belt in the cage, and because his suspension will end this summer, the expectation is that “Bones” will meet the winner of tonight’s scrap.

Thus, this is why at a press conference on Friday, Jones was asked to make a prediction for tonight’s headliner. Here is some of what the renowned fighter had to say (quote via MMA Fighting):

“Do I think he [Johnson] beats DC?,” Jones said. “I think he has a very strong chance to do it, a puncher’s chance. But if I were to bet, I’d put my money on Daniel Cormier just because the last performance and it boils right down to what I was saying, you have to have the total package to be at a certain level of the sport and DC is closer to that level of having that complete game. So I think Anthony has a chance, but if I had to bet, I would definitely go with Cormier.”

“I feel like he’s [Johnson] a very one-dimensional fighter,” Jones added. “And I know he has that wrestling base and once a wrestler, always a wrestler, but you know I think he’s pretty much fallen in love with his striking and his power…He’s extremely talented with God-given knockout power, he’s got a great kickboxing coach, but this sport is mixed martial arts.”

A lot of fans and pundits seem to be making the same call here as Jones, which is why it’s kind of surprising that Cormier is the betting lines underdog. But, Johnson has been on a fearsome tear since he faced Cormier back in 2015. After all, he’s bombed out Ryan Bader, Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa; only the latter made it into the second round.

It’s going to be a fascinating bout. No question. UFC 210 will go down at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
