James Irvin Returns to Light Heavyweight vs. Igor Pokrajac at UFC on Versus 2

Following his unsuccessful middleweight debut, slugger James Irvin is slated to return to light heavyweight when he faces Igor Pokrajac at UFC on Versus 2 on August 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah, according to MMA Weekly.

Irvin (14-6) returned to the Octagon in March for the first time since suffering a first-round knockout to Anderson Silva and subsequently testing positive for banned painkillers in mid-2008, making his anticipated debut at 185-pounds against Alessio Sakara, but a tough weight cut resulted in a first-round knockout loss and prompted him to return to 205-pounds.

Pokrajac (21-7) will need to earn his first UFC victory if he hopes to remain with the promotion after dropping back-to-back bouts inside the Octagon to Vladimir Matyushenko in September and James Te Huna in February, which snapped the Croatian’s eight-fight win streak.

UFC on Versus 2 is also expected to feature Jon Jones vs. Vladimir Matyushenko, Joe Stevenson vs. Takanori Gomi, and Mark Munoz vs. Yushin Okami.
