UFC on FOX 24: Robert Whittaker Says “Wherever” Belt Goes “I Want It”, Following Impressive Win

Some fans and pundits have been predicting that Robert Whittaker was going to enter the title shot mix eventually, but following his jaw dropping victory at UFC on FOX 24, “The Reaper’s” already there.

Whittaker took on “Jacare” Souza at the event, who has been at the top of the 185 division now for quite some time. Leading up to the bout, a lot of folks believed Whittaker would be a stiff test for Souza, but not too many folks were predicting that the rising star would finish him in round two.

Well, following Whittaker’s emphatic victory on Saturday, the Australian had this to say about his future (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I’m on my title run, and I want that belt,” Whittaker said “If Bisping loses that fight, or if he’s tied up or whatever, I want that belt. Wherever it goes, I want it.”

It will be interesting to see what comes next for Whittaker. Obviously Yoel Romero is knocking on the title shot door, as we wait to see what happens in the Michael Bisping – Georges St-Pierre fight. So, one would think Whittaker will be booked for another bout, with say the likes of Gegard Mousasi or Luke Rockhold. If he wins that bout, then a championship fight could very well be next.

When asked about how the fight with Souza went down, and whether he expected things to go the way they did, Whittaker noted ““‘Expect’ is not the word – I prepared for the fight to be that way.” Well, obviously Whittaker has been doing a lot of things, really, really well in recent months.

UFC on FOX 24 took place in Kansas City, Missouri.
