Artem Lobov is a pretty sizeable underdog, heading into his bout Saturday with Cub Swanson, which will headline UFC FN 108. But, on the latest “UFC Tonight”, Tyron Woodley mapped out a path he believes Lobov could take to score the upset win.
Since Swanson has long been regarded as one the top featherweights in the UFC, it’s not surprising that he’s the favorite. After all, Lobov isn’t currently ranked in the top 15, and Swanson is ranked #4. Swanson’s 8-2 in his last 10 bouts, while Lobov is 5-4-1 (although, this does not include his run to the finals on TUF 22). As a result, the betting lines have the American as big time favorite in the -588 to -700 range.
So what was Woodley’s take on the bout? And how Lobov can defeat Swanson? Here’s some of what the welterweight champ had to say (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“He has nothing to lose in this fight. He’s a brawler. He has a puncher’s chance in this fight. It’s a main event. He’s trained with the best in the world including Conor McGregor. We should see some improvements in his game. They’re always trying to add to their arsenal. His keys are he has to close the distance. He can’t fight Cub from the outside. And he needs to land the takedown. That gives him more opportunity to land the damage and pull the upset.”
Makes sense. There’s no doubt that Lobov hits hard and that he’s got a strong chin. So, if he can find Swanson in the pocket, he could land a fight ending shot or two. But, is Woodley picking Lobov to win? No. No, he’s not. Woodley predicts that Swanson will score a second round, stoppage win.
UFC FN 108 will take place in Nashville, TN.
