Luke Rockhold hasn’t fought last June and is coming off a knee injury, but the former middleweight champ’s not looking for a warm-up fight next.
The 32 year-old last competed at UFC 199, which saw his reign as the 185 champ come to an end, courtesy of Michael Bisping. Rockhold was supposed to fight fellow contender “Jacare” Souza in November, but a knee injury forced the American to withdraw.
Well, speaking of Souza, the latter is coming off an emphatic, stoppage loss to Robert Whittaker last weekend. Since then, Rockhold appeared on “Submission Radio“, and he had nothing but praise for the rising Australian (quote via MMA Fighting):
“How about Bobby Knuckles. Boy is looking good. You Aussie’s got something to believe in right now. He’s looking fresh, looking tight, and I think we make a lot of sense right now. The kid wants to get his title shot; there’s a long list of guys in line right now and I’m looking to get back at it so I don’t see anything better. I appreciate the competition. I like what the kid’s done and I want to test him, I want to test myself and get back at it.”
Now, that’s a bout a lot of folks would like to see no? Of course, since Bisping is going to fight Georges St-Pierre later this year, the UFC could approach Yoel Romero about fighting in the coming months. In fact, Romero called for a fight with Anderson Silva not long ago, and wanted it to be for an interim belt.
Well, here’s what Rockhold had to say about facing the powerful Cuban wrestler:
“Romero wants that interim title, I know that for a fact and he’s not going to fight anybody else so if that comes to be, I’d gladly fight Yoel. That’s one and two…”
Whether it’s Rockhold – Whittaker or Rockhold – Romero, here’s hoping one of those fights gets added to the summer schedule.
