UFC FN 108: Artem Lobov Says Absence of John Kavanagh, Conor McGregor Won’t be an Issue

UFC Nashville

Artem Lobov will battle Cub Swanson tonight without head coach John Kavanagh in his corner, or teammate Conor McGregor in attendance, but “The Russian Hammer” says it won’t be an issue.

Lobov is a member of the famed Straight Blast Gym in Ireland. But, due to a speaking engagement the team’s head coach Kavanagh has, and because McGregor’s first child is waiting for the birth of his first child, neither will be on hand at UFC FN 108.

But, when asked whether this might be an issue, Lobov had this to say (quote via MMA Junkie):

“It doesn’t really affect me,” Lobov said. “World champions don’t need their hand held.”

“I have Owen Roddy here, who is one of the main coaches at SBG, and he’s cornered me many times before,” Lobov added. “I used to fight every weekend. And I could have my grandma in my corner. By the time I’m walking into the cage, nothing matters me anymore. I’m ready to go.”

Now sure, it would certainly be beneficial of Kavanagh or McGregor were there to offer their insights, considering their vast knowledge of the game. But, as Lobov noted, he will have Roddy there, who has been coach with the team for years. Further, Lobov has over 25 pro-bouts under his belt, so, chances are he’s not going to be too fazed by this.

Lobov is coming off consecutive, decision wins over Chris Avila and Teruto Ishihara heading into the bout.

UFC FN 108 will take place in Nashville, TN.
