UFC 211: Junior dos Santos Says Fighting Anthony Joshua Would be “Sensational”

Challenging boxers to bouts continues to be all the rage in MMA, as now Junior dos Santos has begun campaigning for a scrap with Anthony Joshua.

Even if boxing isn’t your jam, chances are you’re aware that Joshua took out Wladimir Klitschko last weekend, and in doing so, added two more championships to his resume. The fight was one of the more entertaining, high stakes, heavyweight bouts in recent memory.

Well, dos Santos is scheduled to fight Stipe Miocic next Saturday at UFC 211, but recently he told Combate the following (quote via Bloody Elbow):

“I would love to have a boxing match,” dos Santos said. “Since I’m going to be the UFC heavyweight champion and there can be only one toughest man on the planet, I would like to fight Anthony Joshua. Champion against champion. It would be sensational.”

You could have JDS box Joshua on the same card that Jimi Manuwa takes on David Haye right? In theory? Yes. In theory.

In reality, the chances of all these MMA vs. boxing bouts materializing are slim. Although, it wasn’t long ago most folks said Conor McGregor – Floyd Mayweather wouldn’t happen, but talks are ongoing to make it so…

First things first for dos Santos, however, and that’s Mr. Miocic. A man who’s taken out Mark Hunt, Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem since he lost via decision to JDS in 2014.
