Gegard Mousasi’s interviews continue to provide must see action, as the middleweight contender recently took shots at both the media and Ronda Rousey.
For years, hardcore fans and pundits knew that Mousasi was one of the best fighters on the planet, but he certainly wasn’t known for making headline grabbing statements. Well, in recent months, that’s all changed, as Mousasi has been speaking his mind and then some. Although, maybe we’re just noticing this side of Mousasi now? Since he’s garnering much more media attention on account of his UFC run?
Recently Mousasi attended a media event in Singapore, to help promote the UFC’s June 17th card there. While discussing the aforementioned Rousey, Mousasi had this to say (quote via MMA Fighting):
“She’s a good fighter, she has the mentality of a fighter, but she doesn’t have the skills of a stand-up fighter,” Mousasi said.“How can the media make her one of the best fighters when she can’t even kick or punch? That’s like Serena Williams [playing] without a backhand. How do they make her the greatest fighter of all time?”
Wow. Chances are Rousey fans won’t care for these comments. What about the media?
Well, Mousasi’s not the only person who’s argued that the media blew up Rousey. But, we are talking about a fighter who needed less than three minutes combined, to defeat Sara McMann, Alexis Davis, Cat Zingano and Bethe Correia. So, at the time, it was kind of difficult to not heap praise on Rousey. Even if she hadn’t faced dangerous strikers like Holly Holm or Amanda Nunes.
Rousey aside, Mousasi is currently riding a five fight, winning streak.
