Dana White Discusses Anderson Silva Situation, Understands Legend’s “Not Thrilled” With Him

Kelsey Mowatt

Anderson Silva’s been making headlines in recent days, as a result of his current issues with the UFC, and Dana White plans to meet with the legendary fighter soon.

Before the UFC changed gears, and decided to punt the Michael Bisping – Georges St-Pierre bout, Silva made it abundantly clear he wasn’t happy with the planning of that fight. Silva even demanded that the UFC book him to fight Yoel Romero for an interim, 185 title, or he’s “done”. White shot that down, even before the UFC elected to have Romero fight Bisping next.

Well, recently White was a guest on “The Jime Rome Show“, and not surprisingly, he was asked about Silva. Here is some of what the UFC President had to say (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“You can’t demand a title fight or (threaten), ‘I’m going to retire.’ Especially when you know that my philosophy is this: If you even mention the word ‘retirement,’ you should probably retire. I know he’s not thrilled and happy with me. He and I need to sit down and do a face-to-face…”

“At the end of the day, despite Anderson Silva going crazy on Instagram and saying all these things right now, he’s actually a really nice guy,” White said. “He’s angry right now and we need to sit down. Everything is better face-to-face, so I probably need to fly out to California and sit down to talk with him – and soon, very soon.”

Now, Silva’s fans likely saw his ultimatum for an interim title fight as further evidence that he still wants to compete, and at the highest levels. Not as an indication that Silva’s has one foot out the MMA door. Silva’s in a position where he doesn’t need to fight, and he’s also a huge star, so he has some leverage in that respect.

That aside, it will be interesting to see what comes out of this. Silva – GSP in November?
