Although Brian Kelleher scored an impressive victory over Iuri Alcantara in his Octagon debut, before calling out John Lineker, “Hands of Stone” has no interest in facing the bantamweight next.
Kelleher faced Alcantara at UFC 212 last weekend, and dropped jaws throughout MMA, by submitting the Brazilian in the opening round. Alcantara is currently ranked #13 in the 135 division.
After his win, Kelleher reportedly said he wants to fight Lineker next. But, when the heavy-handed fighter was asked to respond to the proposed bout, Lineker told MMA Fighting this:
“A fight with this guy, it doesn’t make sense for me to fight him right now. The position I am in the ranking… I don’t know where he actually is in the ranking. But it wouldn’t be good for me.
“Of course, I’d like to fight a top 5, but if the UFC wants this fight, I wouldn’t say no. I’ll fight anyone. I’ll fight whoever the UFC puts in there. I’m an employee and there’s nothing I can do.”
Hard to argue with Lineker here, considering he’s ranked #4 right now, and Kelleher isn’t in the top 15 yet.
