UFC FN 112: Kevin Lee Says Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Trying to Protect “Imaginary O”

UFC FN 112

Kevin Lee will battle Michael Chiesa this Saturday at UFC Fight Night 112, but the lightweight contender continues to keep his sights on Khabib Nurmagomedov.

For a little while now, Lee has been calling for a bout with Nurmagomedov, as “The Motown Phenom” wants to showcase his wrestling and grappling skills, versus those of “The Eagle’s”. As you know, many people believe Nurmagomedov is one of the best overall grapplers in the game, if not the best.

Well, recently Lee appeared on “The MMA Hour“, and once again, he made it clear he still wants to scrap Nurmagomedov. Here is some of what the 24 year-old had to say (quote via MMA Mania):

“That’s the fight to make. I shouldn’t even have to march. They should’ve made that fight for this one, but the man don’t want to fight,” said Lee. “He’s trying to hold on to that little imaginary ‘0’ that he has. It don’t make sense, but, the man don’t want to fight.”

“So, the man has shown that he don’t want to fight,” Lee added, while discussing the undefeated Nurmagomedov. “I give him nine months notice to show up in December. That’s on top of me taking a fight this Sunday and still show up in December. So, if he don’t show up then I’ll fight Tony Ferguson.”

Now, a bout between Lee and Nurmagomedov would be fascinating to watch. But, if Lee does defeat Chiesa, a fight with vaunted grappler like won’t happen. Nurmagomedov is ranked #1 and currently Lee is #11. So, even if the UFC books Ferguson to fight someone else, one would think Nurmagomedov would be tapped to fight a top five competitor, like an Edson Barboza.

But, you never know. If Lee takes out Chiesa in impressive fashion, maybe he’ll jump into the top five?
