UFC Light Heavyweight Steve Cantwell Cleared to Return

UFC light heavyweight Steve Cantwell, whose fighting career was put in jeopardy when he was forced off January’s UFC 108 just days before the event, has been cleared by the Nevada State Athletic Commission to return to action, MMAjunkie reports.

The final WEC 205-pound champ, Cantwell (7-3) failed to be cleared for his UFC 108 matchup with Vladimir Matyushenko due to undisclosed issues with his medical paperwork, but the issue was recently resolved, allowing Cantwell to return to action later this year, though he has yet to be booked for his next fight.

After claiming the WEC title by avenging a loss to Brian Stann in August 2008, Cantwell made his UFC debut that December with a first-round technical submission of Razak Al-Hassan, but has since dropped back-to-back bouts to Luiz Cane last April and Stann in September.
