Justin Gaethje Makes Case For Scrap With Tony Ferguson, Following Thrilling Win

UFC

Following Justin Gaethje’s jaw dropping and thrilling win over Michael Johnson last night at the TUF 25 Finale, the former WSOF champ is making a case for why he should fight Tony Ferguson next.

If you missed last night’s main event, well, then you’ve missed one of the best fights of the years, if not the last couple. Gaethje ate some heavy bombs early on in the bout, but in round two, he stunned Johnson and then proceeded to finish the vet with an onslaught of strikes. Hardcore fans and pundits were expecting an awesome bout, but the fight likely even exceeded those expectations.

After the card, Gaethje made it clear that he’s hoping to fight Ferguson for the interim 155 belt next, He also credited the division’s reigning champ, Conor McGregor, who relayed he was a fan of last night’s scrap via Twitter (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“It’s been pointed out to me that [McGregor] tweeted tonight about my fight,” Gaethje said. “Real recognize real. That dude’s a warrior, I’m a warrior. If I get the interim belt around my waist — I’ve only got to do that maybe one or two more times, and then, like I said, I’m not going to ask for the money fight; I’m going to be the money fight. You sound like a little b*tch when you ask for the money fight.

“I’m going to earn it, one at a time. I don’t care who’s next. I want to fight Ferguson, but he’ll probably say I’m not worthy. He lost to Michael Johnson. I just finished him. So he’ll be full of sh*t when he says that.”

There you have it. Now, if you need a refresher, Johnson scored a decision win over Ferguson back in 2012. Since then, “El Cucuy” has won nine in a row and is sitting in the #2 spot at 155.

Could Gaethje get tapped for a fight with Ferguson? It seems unlikely, since Khabib Nurmagomedov is expected to return to action this fall.
