UFC 214: Cris “Cyborg” Says Back-And-Forth With Ronda Rousey Wasn’t “Personal”

For months, Ronda Rousey and Cris “Cyborg” Justino exchanged warnings through the media, and some pretty heated things were said, but the latter doesn’t believe any of it was personal…

Before Rousey’s epic KO loss to Holly Holm in 2015, there was no shortage of talk and speculation about “Rowdy’ fighting “Cyborg”. The reason being that Rousey was the greatest 135’er on the planet, and Justino was the best 145’er (the majority of folks still believe she is). Both women fielded plenty of questions about fighting each other, and some less than kind things were said. Rousey, for example, alluded to Justino’s 2011 PED flag on more than one occasion, and tossed some insults in the mix.

Well, fast forward to today, and it’s not even clear if Rousey will ever fight again, following her stoppage loss to Amanda Nunes last December. But, Justino was asked about her back-and-forth with Rousey during UFC 214 media day, and here’s some of what the Brazilian star said (quote via MMA Fighting):

“We can talk, I never met her before,” Cyborg said. “But I think she did great things for women’s MMA. She said a lot of things about me, but I think she used that time for growing her. I think she used it like a business. I think it’s nothing personal, because I never met her. We don’t know each other. Nothing. I don’t have anything against her.”

It will be interesting to see if Justino and Rousey ever do talk it out. Recently Dana White made headlines by admitting the promotion has made some mistakes in dealing with “Cyborg” (White also said some less than kind things about Justino back in the day). While discussing White’s recent comments, the former Invicta FC champ stated:

“It’s really nice when someone says they did a mistake and say that,” Cyborg said Thursday. “A lot of people don’t say anything. I respect that. I think I can forgive him, but there are consequences he cannot delete…”

This is very true. Rousey and White aside, Justino is preparing to fight Tonya Evinger for the vacant 145 title at UFC 214.
