Dana White has been praising the boxing skills of Conor McGregor, and has claimed the latter put a “beating” on Paulie Malignaggi. But, according to Floyd Mayweather, the UFC lightweight champ should have finished the retired boxer…

Since Malignagii left McGregor’s camp there’s been no shortage of discussion and debate, as to what went down in his sparring sessions with the Irish star. Malignaggi has claimed that overall, he got the better of McGregor, despite the fact he hasn’t been active this year etc. McGregor, his team, and White, however, have claimed otherwise.

Well, recently Mayweather was asked for his take on the situation, during a media call. Here’s what the 49-0 boxer had to say (quote via MMA Fighting):

“We’re sitting here judging Paulie, a guy that’s been retired and just commentating and traveling the world, not going to the gym at all, going in there with a guy that’s just working out — an athlete period, that’s just working out,” Mayweather said. “Every day, every day. Honestly, it shouldn’t have even went 12 rounds with a young guy that’s an athlete.”

Now does Mayweather really mean this? Hard to say. But it’s an interesting way to take a shot at McGregor. Mayweather was also asked for his thoughts on the much discussed, sparring footage of McGregor and Malignaggi, which White released. Since the sparring session, it’s been revealed that McGregor was deducted a couple of points by referee Joe Cortez, for fouls.

“I had a chance to see it and my thoughts is, it was real interesting,” Mayweather said. “But, you know, a lot of rabbit punching, illegal rabbit punching behind the head. A lot of shots were illegal. A lot of grappling, a lot of wrestling, a lot of illegal shots. That’s just my honest opinion.

“I’m pretty sure the referee is going to be fair on both sides. I want the referee to be fair and treat both competitors — myself and Conor McGregor — [the same]….”

McGregor and Mayweather are going to box, next Saturday, August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
