Cris “Cyborg” Outlines Why She Has “no Interest” in Fighting Amanda Nunes

Amanda Nunes has talked about fighting at 145 in the past, and there’s no doubt a lot of folks would like to see her fight Cris “Cyborg” Justino, but the latter isn’t interested…

When Germaine de Randamie was holding the featherweight title, Amanda Nunes relayed that she was down to battle the Dutch fighter. Nunes also noted, however, that she wasn’t interested in fighting “Cyborg” for the belt, as the bantamweight champ said doing so would require much more preparation (Nunes noted that Justino is much bigger than her).

Well, recently Justino was asked for her thoughts on potentially facing Nunes at some juncture, and the renowned fighter said this (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I’d fight Amanda, but I have no interest in fighting her,” Cyborg said during a media day in Rio de Janeiro. “We’re two Brazilians, and that would ‘kill’ one Brazilian. Why kill one if we’re representing the same country? It’s us against the world.”

“But if it’s an interesting fight for the fans, if they want this one day, we can do it,” Cyborg added. “It’s like ‘Claudinha’ (Gadelha) fighting Jessica (Andrade at UFC Japan). I don’t think it would be cool because we’re Brazilians, but I’d do it. I would avoid it, because Brazil vs Brazil is not cool, and I think fans would be split.”

Other Brazilian fighters have made similar comments in the past, in terms of facing their fellow citizen. At this juncture, it’s hard to imagine this fight getting tabled anytime soon anyways. Nunes is booked to fight Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 215, September 9th, and the expectation is that Justino could fight Holly Holm later this year.

In addition, until Nunes and Justino both defend their respective belts several times, the UFC likely won’t even entertain the bout. Even then, it would likely require Nunes vacating the 135 title and committing to 145, before a fight with “Cyborg” could even materialize.
