Joseph Benavidez will look to avenge the lone loss of his career and can claim the WEC bantamweight title in the process as he’s set to rematch 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz in the main event of WEC 50 on August 18 in Las Vegas.
Cruz (15-1) earned a unanimous decision over Benavidez in their first meeting in August to earn a shot at the belt, then won the title in March with a second-round TKO of champ Brian Bowles for his sixth-straight victory.
After having his 10-fight win streak snapped, Benavidez (12-1) has bounced back with wins over Rani Yahya in December and former champ Miguel Torres in March.
WEC 50 also features former featherweight champion Urijah Faber’s drop to bantamweight vs. Takeya Mizugaki, while lightweight contender Shane Roller is also expected to appear on the Versus-televised card.
