Siyar Bahadurzada Says He’s Back With “Vengeance”, Vows to be Champ by 2019

UFC Fight Night Rotterdam

Following Siyar Bahadurzada’s pivotal and impressive win yesterday at UFC Fight Night Rotterdam, the heavy handed fighter has sent out a warning shot to the promotion’s roster.

Bahadurzada took on Rob Wilkinson at Saturday’s card, and finished the middleweight in the second round with a series of punches. It marked the first time Wilkinson had ever been defeated, and it was also just the second time since 2013 that Bahadurzada has fought.

Prior to facing Wilkinson, Bahadurzada submitted Brandon Thatch at UFC 196, which went down in March, 2016. Before that, the Afghan fighter, who has battled injuries and health issues in recent years, lost via decision to John Howard in 2013. So, clearly yesterday’s win was an important victory for the 33 year-old, which is likely why Bahadurzada said this afterrwards (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“It felt great because I’ve fought only twice in the last four years,” Bahadurzada said. “The reason is because I was sick and injured sometimes and I wasn’t able to perform. But I corrected the mistakes and I figured out what I was doing wrong. I corrected it, I’m back, and now I’m here to stay.”

“I’m back with a vengeance to achieve my dream and I’ll be the champ by 2019.”

It’s going to be interesting to see what comes next for Bahadurzada, who definitely isn’t short on stopping power and finishing abilities. The veteran fighter also relayed that he plans to return to welterweight, and he also called out Matt Brown.

“I think Matt Brown will be a good fight,” Bahadurzada said. “He says that he’s immortal, but I will show that he’s pretty much mortal.”

Now, that’s a fight a lot of folks would love to see, but Brown is currently booked to take on Diego Sanchez on November 11th. What about former Strikeforce champ Tarec Saffiedine? He’s currently ranked #15, and is a talented striker. So, stylistically, that’s a match-up that could deliver some entertaining violence no?
