As expected, last month’s Floyd Mayweather – Conor McGregor bout generated a massive, live gate at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. But, the fight did not set a new live gate record, as many believed would be the case.
After an initial reported from Jed I. Goodman, MMA Junkie has confirmed with the Nevada Commission that MayMac sold $55,414,865.79 in tickets on August 26th. That would make it the second highest, live gate in history, as the Mayweather – Manny Pacquiao bout in 2015 generated almost $72.2 million.
This is the latest news regarding how huge Mayweather – McGregor was. Recently it was reported the card is nearing the domestic pay-per-view record of 4.6 million PPV buys, which was set by Mayweather – Pacquiao. UFC President Dana White was recently documented saying that the August 26th bout sold 6.5 million PPVs (and it was assumed he was referring to international totals).
So, clearly all the parties involved did just fine on the financial end of things here.
