Undefeated heavyweight and Kentucky native Ron Sparks has signed with Bellator and will debut in the local co-main event of next Thursday’s Bellator 23 event in Louisville, the promotion today announced.
“We are happy to have an up-and-coming heavyweight like Ron taking part in the Local Co-Main Event of our Louisville show,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said in a release. “Ron knocks people out and fans love to see that in the heavyweight division, so Ron should put on a great show for the fans in Louisville.”
A longtime boxer and kickboxer, Sparks improved to 5-0 last June with a unanimous decision over Jonathan Ivey, the first decision of his career following four-straight first-round knockouts, with the longest lasting just 67-seconds.
With a win, Sparks would likely earn a spot in Bellator’s season three heavyweight tournament that begin in August.
Bellator 23 is co-headlined by the middleweight tournament finale between Bryan Baker and Alexander Shlemenko and the featherweight tourney finale between Joe Warren and Patricio Pitbull.
